Kan-reki is an important event for many Japanese people, often commemorated
with a large party or family gathering.To celebrate thisspecial occasion,
the 60-year-old person wears RED clothes. the traditional garb includs
a red bouffant hat(e-boshi) and a RED sleeveless vest(chan-chan-ko)
Why RED??
Aka- chan means baby or literally,"red one' in Japanese. Akameans
RED.The 60-year-oldperson is once again a baby who is embarking on the
next 60 year cycle. It is a rebirth. Donning red then symbolizes that return
to baby hood
We have other coming-of age celabrations.Beyond the Kan-reki,we celebrate
theKoki(70 year-old), Kiju(77 year-old) ,Sanju(80 year-old), Beiju(88 year-old),
Sotsuju(90 year-old) and Hakujy(99 year-old)
